Nature Has it’s Funny Ways

We’ve all heard about cats or dogs that act as a surrogate to orphaned kittens or puppies and sometimes even pigs or squirrels.  Often, a dog or cat who has just given birth will take on this young as if they were her own.

My dog, Keesha, recently decided to act as a surrogate mom [...]

Humans Could Learn a Lot From Cats

Two Sharing Mama’s

I’m not known for being a cat lover and they’re not one of my favorite animals.  Rarely does one get a key to my heart.  Let me tell you about 2 lady cats who did.  Jelly had her litter and everything went smooth …until Scampers had her first kitty a couple of days later.  Scampers only had [...]

Little Miss Elusive in Heat

Lucy, my 10-mo old great dane, is in heat for the first time.  I’ve had an unspayed dog before but this is the first big dog I’ve had go through this.  It’s messy.  I’m soooooo tired of cleaning blood drips off the wood floor.  And her legs.  She hasn’t even noticed her heat.  The living room and [...]

June Bug Control

I really hate these brown fat crunchy guys.  At my place, they seem to come out in droves, flying around like little superheroes.  But they’re dumb.  They run into everything and always seem to land on their back, buzzing furiously and struggling with all their might to flip their fat body back over.  By the [...]

I Want a Horse

When you live in town and your kid says “I want a horse”, it’s easy to say no because of the realities of a horse in town.  When you live in the country and your kid says “I want a horse” it becomes much tougher to turn that child down.  When you finally say “yes”, [...]

The Music

The music is on.  Country today.  Kid Rock is playing, and it’s loud.  I dance in the driveway.  By myself.  And I sing.  In the driveway, by myself.  The song moves me.  No one can see.  You can’t do that in your driveway in town.

Beautiful stuff out here.  ♥

Mickey (not mouse)

Barn cat.  Outdoor cat.  Mouser cat.  Whatever you want to call it, if you live on an acreage you likely have one or more of these cats.  They tend to come and go and often you don’t know where they’ve disappeared to.  If you’ve had a kitty population-explosion you might even be secretly relieved when [...]

Water; part 2 of a 2-part series

In this second article I would like to discuss waste water.  Waste water should be one of the first things you consider when buying a rural property upon which you intend to build your dream home.  (If you missed the first article in the water series, click here.)

There are two basic types of waste water [...]

Can You Handle The Mess?

The mess in my kitchen on many days of the week

The house is a mess and we’re not talking slight disarray here.  So much time is spent outdoors there just isn’t time to worry too much about the dishes.  Or the dirty socks laying here and there.  I don’t have time to organize the stack [...]

Water; part 1 of a 2-part series

Are you considering moving to an acreage?  Have you taken trips through the countryside and dreamed of wandering in the woods, grasslands or meadows?  Do you long for the peace and serenity of the country or wish to escape the claustrophobic suburbs?  Maybe you grew up in a rural community, moved to the city, and [...]
